Frequently Asked Questions

Our Frequently Asked Questions

Where is the boat located?

We are located at The Harborage at Ashley Marina (see “Where should we park?” below):
33 Lockwood Drive
Charleston, SC

Please arrive 10 minutes before your scheduled charter time for a mandatory boat safety briefing. This briefing will not cut into your charter time if you arrive early. The captain will greet you at the dock entrance to show you to the boat.

Where should we park?

The Harborage at Ashley Marina does not allow charter guests to park in their parking lot. Doing so may result in a ticket or towing.

Below are a few options to consider:

  1. Take an Uber or Taxi to The Harborage at Ashley Marina (33 Lockwood Drive, Charleston, SC). Please inform your Uber driver that they should take you to The Harborage at Ashley Marina, not Safe Harbor Charleston City Marina. The Harborage at Ashley Marina is immediately after The Hilton Garden Inn on Lockwood Drive.
  2. Park at Safe Harbor Charleston City Marina (17 Lockwood Dr., Charleston, SC), which has paid parking available. Take the concrete sidewalk left and walk five to seven minutes to The Ashley Marina (33 Lockwood Drive Charleston, SC). The sidewalk is right along Lockwood Drive, and you will walk under a few overpasses.
Where can we meet the captain?

The captain will greet you at the picnic table by the dock entrance (see the photo below). He will escort you to the boat from there and assist with any personal belongings you bring along.

Please aim to arrive at least 10 minutes before your scheduled charter time. All charters will start with a brief safety speech once all passengers are on board.

What should we expect on our sailboat tour?

We ask our guests to arrive 10 minutes before the charter time so that we can give a mandatory safety and boat briefing before leaving the docks. Once the briefing is done, the adventure begins!

First, we leave the docks of the Ashley Marina and make our way into the Charleston Harbor. As we go, we pass by some of Charleston's infamous landmarks like the Charleston Battery, Waterfront Park, and the historical Castle Pinckney. Then we’ll turn around near the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge or Fort Sumter, where the Civil War began.

We understand if you want more than three hours on the Llibertat! Please call (843) 743-4915 instead of booking online to book a longer tour. We may be able to extend your tour time based on availability.

What should my group bring with us?

You are welcome to bring any snacks or drinks that you would like! Adults 21 years or older may bring alcoholic beverages, but please do not bring glass bottles on board and always be responsible.

The captain and crew are not allowed to drink while working, and Blue Life Charters does not provide alcohol. However, we will have water and sodas on the boat, plus wine glasses and cocktail glasses you are free to use. We also have a refrigerator available to keep your snacks and beverages cold!

What should we wear?

It is often a few degrees cooler on the water than on the mainland. Spray from the ocean may get you wet, but you will not be soaked. Please dress accordingly with the current weather in mind.

How do we add gratuity?

We are in the hospitality business, so we accept tips based on your onboard experience. We accept tips in any form that is easiest for you, including cash, credit card, Venmo, or even PayPal.

Can we bring more than six people on board?

Unfortunately, no. Blue Life Charters falls under the U.S. Coast Guard rules and regulations, which dictate that we can take a maximum of six guests on our boat. Please note that this number includes small children.

If you have a party of more than six guests, we can split your party between two boats and do a tandem sail. Please call (843) 743-4915 and ask for more details if you are interested in this option.

What if the weather forecast is bad for my scheduled charter time?

Please assume that your charter will continue as scheduled unless you hear directly from us. However, if there is a chance of thunderstorms, lightning, or excessive wind, the captain will contact you at least one or two hours before your scheduled charter time to discuss options.

What are the cancellation and rescheduling policies?

We have a very detailed cancellation and rescheduling policy listed on our Terms & Conditions page.

For cancellations or rescheduling due to the weather, we will personally work with you to fit your needs. If our captain must reschedule due to inclement weather, customers will receive a full refund or reschedule for a time that best suits their upcoming schedule.

No-shows will be charged the full price of their scheduled charter with no refund.
